Do your students struggle with getting the correct answer when they are implementing the traditional US algorithm for addition, subtraction, multiplication, or division? This isn’t because they “can’t” do the math, it’s because they aren’t ready for that particular kind of math. When you are fluent in mathematics, it means you are using flexibility, efficiency, and accuracy in solving problems. This session will help participants understand exactly what that means and how it impacts the teaching and learning in their mathematics classroom.
